Recently, Zhongzhong Science & Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., leveraging its profound technical expertise and outstanding equipment manufacturing capabilities, has successfully won the bid to supply the core equipment for the Anyang Bridge's double-leaf vertical-lift bascule bridge spanning the Haihe River.
The Anyang Bridge across the Haihe River (abbreviated as "Anyang Bridge") is a key municipal project in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) aimed at strengthening the city's transportation infrastructure. Serving as a critical transportation link connecting the Yujiapu Financial District, the Xiangluowan Business District, and the Dagu Residential Area, it bears the important mission of enhancing regional connectivity and optimizing the business environment. The bridge is dedicated to becoming a new urban landmark that integrates functionality, aesthetics, and technological innovation.

The Anyang Bridge, as Asia's largest three-axis concentric double-leaf vertical-rotation bascule bridge, features an opening section with a total span of 12m+90m+12m=114m and a full width of 41.5m accommodating six bidirectional traffic lanes and pedestrian walkways on both sides. The core opening system undertaken by Zhongzhong, with its extremely high engineering precision and complex manufacturing requirements, has become the critical factor determining the project's success. To overcome this challenge, the project abandoned the traditional gear-and-pinion rack drive mechanism commonly used in mechanical bascule bridges and innovatively adopted an opening solution powered by four sets of large hydraulic cylinders directly pushing each leaf. Thanks to this purely hydraulically-driven innovative design, the entire opening system has been significantly simplified in structure, resulting in superior operational stability.
Furthermore, this innovative solution also demonstrates outstanding design ingenuity in achieving cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and long-term protection. The opening hydraulic cylinders employ a deck-side push-type opening mechanism, where the opening thrust is provided by the piston side (blind end) of the cylinders. This design significantly reduces the physical footprint and configuration cost of the hydraulic power system. Moreover, when the bridge is in its normally closed position, the hydraulic cylinder rods remain retracted, effectively shielding them from external environmental corrosion. This greatly enhances the long-term durability and simplifies the maintenance of these critical actuating components.

Compared with Tianjin's century-old iconic bridge, the Jiefang Bridge, the Anyang Bridge not only achieves a significant leap in both vertical span and horizontal width, but its innovative purely hydraulic drive system is also more streamlined and efficient than the traditional gear-and-pinion rack transmission mechanism. This design successfully integrates navigational capacity with urban aesthetics. Crucially, the Anyang Bridge's navigational clearance of nearly 37.5 meters will transform the passage conditions for large vessels. Upon completion, it will reserve broad navigable space for the Haihe River waterway, perfectly balancing traffic and shipping demands. This project sets a new benchmark for the technological development of long-span bascule bridges in China.
